Jebel Ali Port is set to become a hub of sustainable transport with 100 electric trucks and cutting-edge technology

Freight mobility company Einride and global supply chain solutions provider DP World have announced a collaboration to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability at Jebel Ali Port. This partnership aims to save 14,600 tonnes of CO2e annually, significantly contributing to the region’s climate goals.

Commencing at Jebel Ali Port, the collaboration will see Einride’s full technology suite deployment.

This includes the Einride Saga, which will power a fleet of heavy-duty electric vehicles, autonomous pilots, and the necessary charging infrastructure.

Scaling operations for sustainability

DP World and Einride’s joint initiative represents the largest deployment of electric, autonomous freight mobility in the Middle East, operating round-the-clock to transform regional transport logistics.

Beginning at the end of 2024, the partnership will rapidly scale to manage approximately 1,600 container movements daily.

The expansion will be facilitated by a fleet of 100 connected electric trucks orchestrated through the Einride Saga digital operating system, designed to analyse, optimise, and maximise the efficiency of electric and autonomous road freight operations.

A step towards a sustainable future

At total operational capacity, the initiative is expected to save up to 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) annually and reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 158 tonnes annually.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, said, “DP World is committed to making trade smarter, faster, and more sustainable, and our new partnership with Einride aligns perfectly with our vision. We have already made significant progress in electrifying and automating our terminals at Jebel Ali Port, and by leveraging Einride’s cutting-edge technology, we can take that to the next level. Our partnership will drive greater operational efficiencies, further decarbonise terminal operations, and pioneer greener practices for the logistics sector.”

Robert Falck, CEO and Founder of Einride, said, “By reshaping container transportation in Jebel Ali Port, we aim to set a new standard for sustainable transport practices, significantly curbing CO2 emissions. This collaboration showcases the effectiveness of combining visionary ideals with decisive action, paving the way for a more resilient future.”
