Grandweld delivers KOC crew boats

Dubai’s Grandweld Shipyards is finalising the delivery of four new crew boats to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). This was part of a contract originally signed in 2016, and which also included a total of six pilot boats. So far five of the ten vessels have been handed over to KOC with the remaining five ships due for delivery in June this year.

Built to LR class standards, each of the crew boats can accommodate up to 30 passengers and 3 crew members. They are designed to achieve top speeds of 28 knots and can operate to a range of 150 nautical miles, Grandweld points out.

Sami Al-Sawagh, Marine Operations Manager, KOC, said: “Given that global markets are witnessing an improvement in oil prices, KOC’s decision to build these boats came at a very opportune time. Therefore, our fleet expansion will help the company benefit from the next recovery in order to achieve increased revenues and cope with the rising demand for energy.”

The four vessels have been delivered on schedule by the Dubai yard, and will immediately enter service with KOC in Kuwaiti waters. Jamal Abki, General Manager, Grandweld Shipyards, said: “Our long years of experience in the shipbuilding industry have taught us that every single day a ship spends out of the water leads to a great loss for the ship’s owner. Hence, our commitment to meeting deadlines with our work is a core component of our workflow.”
